About ARRABAL Tangofestival

The ARRABAL Tangofestival is Potsdam's annual tango highlight. Since 2014, fabrik Potsdam has been inviting musicians, dancers, and tango enthusiasts from all over the world to Schiffbauergasse on Tiefen See every October. The programme includes: live concerts by Argentine and European tango ensembles, large Milongas, an opening ball, workshops for beginners and advanced dancers, and scenic performances. The date for the 2026 edition will be announced by fabrik Potsdam in summer 2026.

fabrik Potsdam traditionally publishes the complete ARRABAL 2026 programme in the summer on fabrikpotsdam.de. The festival structure has followed a proven pattern since 2014:

Tango from the Suburbs

The name "Arrabal" refers to the densely populated outskirts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo – the cradle of tango. It is precisely this connection of folk music, big-city longing, and choreographic elegance that the ARRABAL Tangofestival has been celebrating in Potsdam since 2014. The organiser is fabrik Potsdam, the renowned international centre for dance and performance in Schiffbauergasse on Tiefen See.

Programme and Format

The festival combines several formats: concerts with live orchestras, large Milongas (tango dance evenings), a festive opening ball, workshops for all levels, and choreographic stage productions. Every year, tango musicians from Argentina, Uruguay, Europe, and Germany share the stage – many of them for the first time in Potsdam.
