Open Air by the Cologne band — sold out
When the first chords of “Pocahontas” or “Oft gefragt” drift over the SparkassenPark Mönchengladbach on July 18, 2026, it's clear: one of the most important German-language bands of the 2010s and 2020s is back. AnnenMayKantereit — Henning May (vocals/piano), Christopher Annen (guitar), and Severin Kantereit (drums) — will play a sold-out open air as part of their 2026 tour at a venue that enjoys cult status among NRW festival fans.
AnnenMayKantereit is one of those rare German-language acts that have grown organically to stadium size without the hype of casting shows. What began in 2014 with YouTube recordings of street concerts in Cologne-Ehrenfeld led to five platinum albums, over 1.4 billion YouTube streams, and in 2023, the sold-out concert at the RheinEnergieStadion Cologne (~50,000 visitors). The 2026 tour is the first since this stadium crowning and is considered a highly sought-after date of the season.
AnnenMayKantereit sounds like folk, sounds like soul, sounds like pop, sounds like Cologne self-irony — but above all, it sounds like Henning May's characteristically raspy voice and lyrics that oscillate between romantic longing (“Pocahontas”), generational portrait (“Oft gefragt”), political statement (“Tommi”, “Marie”), and private diary (“3 Stunden”, “Wohin du gehst”). In their live format, the band is entirely focused on acoustics and directness — no synthesizer walls, no stadium romance with pyrotechnics, but three men with instruments and a voice that gets the audience singing along.
A mix of classics (“Pocahontas”, “Oft gefragt”, “Marie”, “21, 22, 23”, “Es ist Abend und wir sitzen bei mir”, “Tommi”) and new tracks from the 2026 album are expected. AnnenMayKantereit also has a tradition of reinterpreting cover songs in every concert — from Bob Dylan to Element of Crime to German indie-folk; these cover slots are often the concert highlights.
The SparkassenPark at the Hockeypark in Mönchengladbach-Hardt has been NRW's most important mid-sized open-air venue for years. With capacities between 8,000 and 16,000 visitors (depending on seating arrangement), it perfectly bridges the gap between indoor arenas (Mitsubishi Electric Halle) and stadiums (RheinEnergie, Esprit Arena). The acoustics are good, visibility is decent from all seats, and the setting in the green Hockeypark with trees in the background is pleasant — no asphalt inferno like on some inner-city stages.
The concert is already completely sold out. A secondary ticketing market operates via Eventim's fanSALE platform — anything else is the black market with risks.
Gates open 5 PM, support act around 7 PM (support act to be announced in early summer 2026), main concert AnnenMayKantereit from 8 PM — planned duration about two hours plus encores. Open-air format with standing and seated areas depending on ticket category.

Doors open at 5 PM, concert starts at 8 PM — plenty of time for refreshments at the park. Standing room at the front is recommended if available — the acoustics really make a difference right in front of the stage. Bringing a blanket is a good idea if you have a seated ticket.
