Klangvokal — Vocal Music in All Its Forms

The Klangvokal Musikfestival has been the central vocal festival of western Germany since 2009. The next edition runs from May 15 to June 13, 2026 — for almost a month, concerts will be spread across Dortmund's city area, gathering around 4,700 singers in 180 ensembles. The concept: to celebrate the human voice in all its breadth — from Baroque opera to jazz solos, from a cappella choirs to pop singers.

Program 2026 — Stars and Discoveries

The 2026 program combines established stars with new discoveries:

  • May 16, 2026 — Cyrille Aimée (French-Dominican jazz singer) at domicil
  • May 20, 2026 — Workshop on Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera
  • May 22, 2026 — 'Les Boréades' at Orchesterzentrum NRW
  • May 24/25, 2026 — Chorakademie Dortmund Festival Concerts
  • May 27, 2026 — Andrea Motis (Catalan jazz trumpeter and singer)
  • May 29, 2026 — Pene Pati & Il Pomo d'Oro with Neapolitan repertoire
  • May 30, 2026 — Haydn's 'The Seasons'
  • June 6, 2026 — Youth Concert Choir
  • June 7, 2026 — Donizetti's 'La Favorite'
  • June 13, 2026 — Fest der Chöre (Closing event in the city center)

Four Central Venues

The concerts are spread across four central venues in Dortmund's city center:

  • Konzerthaus Dortmund — the city's acoustically excellent main hall
  • Orchesterzentrum NRW — rehearsal stage and concert hall for North Rhine-Westphalia's young talent
  • St. Reinoldikirche — the city parish church in the heart of the downtown area
  • domicil — Dortmund's leading jazz club

Fest der Chöre — Highlight in the Urban Space

With the Fest der Chöre on June 13, 2026 (listed separately as its own festival in this database), Klangvokal experiences its annual popular highlight. Over 120 choirs occupy the squares and churches of the city center — classical, musical, jazz, pop, and folk music mix, attracting about 50,000 visitors each year.

Dortmund as a Vocal Music Hub

With the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Orchesterzentrum NRW, the Chorakademie, and an active independent scene, Dortmund (an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia) has established itself as an important center for vocal music. The Klangvokal festival bundles these structures once a year into a festival curated by the city itself, which resonates far beyond the region.

Klangvokal — edition 2026

Four weeks of Klangvokal Musikfestival featuring jazz stars Cyrille Aimée and Andrea Motis, tenor Pene Pati, Rameau's opera 'Les Boréades', Haydn's 'The Seasons', Donizetti's 'La Favorite', and the Fest der Chöre as the closing event on June 13 in the city center.

The 2026 edition spans four weeks and three venues (Konzerthaus, Orchesterzentrum NRW, St. Reinoldikirche, domicil). Highlights include French Baroque opera (Rameau), Italian bel canto (Donizetti, Pati), jazz (Aimée, Motis), and the grand choir festival in the city center to conclude.
