Maritime city festival at the harbour of the Hanseatic city of Anklam
The Anklam Hanse Festival is one of the most prominent maritime city festivals in the Vorpommern coastal region. For three days, the Peene embankment of the Hanseatic city of Anklam becomes a festival promenade. Organised by the Hanseatic city of Anklam with numerous local associations, the festival annually attracts several tens of thousands of guests from Vorpommern, Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as from Poland.
Over 60 programme items are spread across three stages – both on land and on water. Live concerts with national and regional acts, DJ sets, opening ceremony with cannon shots, boat parade with fireworks, Hanseatic market, maritime shows, the Peene swim, and an ecumenical church service are part of the regular repertoire.
Anklam was one of the most important member cities of the Hanseatic League in the Pomeranian Quarter. The Hanse Festival builds on this historical heritage: the Hanseatic market with crafts and trades, food according to medieval recipes, and maritime activities at the Peene harbour recall the city's commercial tradition at the intersection of the Baltic Sea and the Pomeranian Lake District.
Anklam is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) on the Peene river, the "Amazon of the North", about 25 km from the Baltic Sea. The city is the birthplace of aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal and the cultural centre of southern Vorpommern. The Hanse Festival marks the social highlight of the summer in the region.
The 21st Anklam Hanse Festival will transform the Peene embankment of the Hanseatic city of Anklam into a festival promenade from Friday, August 14, to Sunday, August 16, 2026. The venue is the harbour wall (Bollwerk) at the Peene harbour. The organiser is the Hanseatic city of Anklam with numerous local associations and partners.
Over 60 programme items are expected on three stages – on land and on water. The festival's standard repertoire includes live concerts with national and regional acts, DJ sets, an opening ceremony with cannon shots, a boat parade with fireworks, a Hanseatic market, maritime shows, the Peene swim, a family programme, and an ecumenical church service on Sunday. The full programme will be published in the weeks before the festival on the city of Anklam's website and on Facebook (@hansefest).
