Anime, Manga, and Cosplay at the Motorworld
What began as a small convention is now a firm fixture in the German anime and manga scene: The Animany Convention attracts over 5,000 fans annually to the Motorworld Cologne, an impressive industrial monument on the outskirts of the Ossendorf district. For two days, cosplayers, artists, voice actors, and gamers transform the hall into a Japanese pop culture parallel world.
Two Stages, One Weekend
The program concept focuses on two stages with different emphases: While the main stage hosts talks, concerts, and the big cosplay competition, the Party Stage features karaoke, Just Dance, and supporting events. In addition, there is a large dealer area, a gaming area, and a professional photo service that is free for cosplayers.
Program Components
- Cosplay Competition with sophisticated judging and a grand stage show
- International Voice Actors with panels, autograph sessions, and Q&A sessions
- Concerts by Japanese and German artists — including Digimon voice Ayumi Miyazaki
- Gaming Area with karaoke and Just Dance
- Dealer Area with manga, figures, merchandise, and indie artists
- Workshops on cosplay, drawing, and convention culture
- After-Convention Party for the night owls
Cologne as the Capital of German Pop Culture Conventions
North Rhine-Westphalia, and specifically the Cologne-Bonn axis, has developed into the German capital of pop culture conventions in recent years. With its mix of industrial backdrop, international guests, and a very active cosplay community, the Animany Convention is a must-attend event for fans from across the country and beyond. Its location in the Motorworld directly at Butzweilerhof is easily accessible by public transport and car alike.
