Franconian Wine in the Half-Timbered Town

The Altstadt-Weinfest Zeil am Main is one of the most traditional wine festivals on the lower Main River. Since 1984, it has attracted visitors every year on the first weekend of August to the medieval half-timbered town in the Haßberge district. 2026 marks the anniversary: with its 40th edition, the festival is being consciously reconfigured under the motto "Half-timbering, Merriment, Franconian Wine".

Market Square, Vorderer Markt, and Old Town Alleys

The venue is the entire historic old town of Zeil, including the market square, the Vorderer Markt, and the adjoining alleys. Traffic is completely diverted from the center, wine stands of Zeil and Haßberge vintners line the facades, restaurateurs from the region open outdoor seating areas, and a central stage provides live music.

• Family-Friendly Sunday: Still free entry with program ending at 8 PM
• Reduced Festival Area: More concentrated atmosphere, simpler organization
• Test Phase: The changes in 2026 are declared a trial phase and will be evaluated afterwards

Franconian Wine and the Haßberge Region

Zeil am Main is located on the right bank of the Main River in the Haßberge district, north of Schweinfurt. The town belongs to the Franconian wine-growing region, whose Silvaner tradition and Bocksbeutel bottles are known far beyond the region. At the Altstadt-Weinfest, these Franconian wine classics are combined with Specht and Bratwurst specialties from Haßberge and a characteristically relaxed town festival atmosphere, where the half-timbered houses are almost as defining as the wine list.
