Affentaler Wine and Baden Club Culture
Altschweier is a district of Bühl in the Rastatt district — nestled in the vineyards of the Baden wine region on the western slope of the Black Forest. The Reblandhalle, the central club house of the district, is the venue for the annual wine festival of the Altschweier Music Association — a festival that embodies the heart of Baden club culture: good brass music from the Original Reblandmusikanten, excellent wines from Affental, and cultivated Baden conviviality.
Affentaler — The Famous Baden Drop
Affentaler wine from the neighboring Affental is one of the best-known Baden wines. The famous Affentaler bottle with the embossed monkey on the neck is a recognizable trademark throughout Germany, and the Spätburgunder red wine from the Affentaler winegrowers' cooperative (founded in 1908) is among the sought-after Baden red wines. These wines are served at the Altschweier Wine Festival — an opportunity to enjoy Affentaler wines directly at their origin, with the authenticity of a club festival.
Original Reblandmusikanten — Brass Music of the Wine Region
The musical backbone of the festival is the Original Reblandmusikanten — the Altschweier Music Association in its traditional brass music formation. With classic Bohemian-Moravian brass music, Baden folk pieces, marches, and polkas, they provide the atmosphere on both festival days. In addition, friendly music associations from the region — from neighboring Neuweier, from Bühl itself, and the surrounding communities of the wine region — perform. The Baden brass music tradition is dense and of high quality.
Sunday Morning: Frühschoppen at 11:30 AM
The actual highlight of the festival is the traditional Frühschoppen on Sunday morning starting at 11:30 AM. This Baden tradition — Sunday after church with beer or wine and brass music in a convivial round — is part of the region's identity and is celebrated in the Reblandhalle hall with the classic Frühschoppen repertoire. Roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut, sausages, potato salad, accompanied by Affentaler wine and draft beer — the combination is classic and unbeatable.
Bühl in the Wine Region
Bühl is a town in the Rastatt district on the western edge of the Black Forest, directly on the Rhine plain. With the districts of Altschweier, Neusatz, Eisental, Neuweier, and Vimbuch, Bühl is surrounded by vineyards — the Baden wine region extends from here to Baden-Baden in the south and Achern in the north. The region belongs to the Baden wine-growing area and is one of the hottest wine regions in Germany. Visitors to the Altschweier Wine Festival can combine their stay with a wine hike through the vineyards or a visit to the neighboring Affental — a perfect autumn weekend in the Baden wine region.
