Annual Summer Auction for the Ahrenshoop Artists' Colony
The Ahrenshoop Art Auction is one of the most renowned regional art auctions in northeastern Germany. Organized by Ahrenshooper Kunstauktionen GmbH (Dorfstraße 16), it annually brings together collectors, gallerists, and art enthusiasts from Berlin, Hamburg, Rostock, and all of northern Germany to the artists' village on the Baltic Sea.
The focus is on the Ahrenshoop Artists' Colony, which attracted painters such as Paul Müller-Kaempff, Anna Gerresheim, and later Lyonel Feininger from the end of the 19th century onwards. Works from the neighbouring colonies of Hiddensee, Nidden (now Lithuania), Schwaan, and Usedom, as well as contributions from classical modernism, are also offered at auction. Recurring artist names include Müller-Kaempff, Mattheuer, Feininger, Bartels, von Eicken, Douzette, Nolde, and Grosz, among others.
The approximately 100 lots are exhibited for several weeks in the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop (Strandweg 1) and the Strandhalle (Dorfstraße 16 b). A printed and an online catalogue allow for in-depth viewing; remote bidding is possible. The auction itself takes place on the first Saturday in August in the Strandhalle, with doors usually opening at 5 PM.
Ahrenshoop is located on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and has been one of the best-known artists' colonies in northern Germany for over 130 years. The art auction solidifies this tradition year after year and is considered a cultural summer event of supra-regional importance.
The 52nd Ahrenshoop Art Auction in 2026 includes a multi-week preview and auction program. From July 1 to 5, 2026, a preview exhibition in Berlin at Galerie Inga Kondeyne will showcase selected lots. From July 10 to 31, 2026, all approximately 100 works will be on display daily at Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop (Strandweg 1) and Strandhalle Ahrenshoop (Dorfstraße 16 b).
The auction itself takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026: doors open at 5 PM, auction starts at 6 PM in Strandhalle Ahrenshoop. The printed and online catalogue will be released at the end of June 2026. The focus will be on works from the Ahrenshoop Artists' Colony and the neighbouring colonies of Hiddensee, Nidden, Schwaan, and Usedom, as well as classical modernism. Remote bids are possible in writing and online.
