Long Night of Art in the Artists' Colony on the Baltic Sea
Since its inception, the Kunstnacht Ahrenshoop (English 'art night ahrenshoop') has established itself as a cultural summer highlight on the Vorpommern Baltic coast. Every third Saturday in August, the entire artists' village opens its galleries, workshops, and event venues until midnight – in an accessible and festive manner, it conveys art in direct contact with its creators.
The programme includes exhibitions, concerts, readings, guided tours, dance performances, performances, and artist talks. Small private galleries and courtyards invite encounters with the artists over wine and candlelight; at the Neues Kunsthaus, the Künstlerhaus Lukas shows works by its scholarship holders; the Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop offers short guided tours of its exhibitions.
Special light installations connect the venues to form a nocturnal art trail. Visitors receive a festival wristband at the entrance, granting free admission to all participating locations – a format that emphasizes the independence of each venue and the shared experience simultaneously.
Ahrenshoop, located on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), is one of Northern Germany's most famous artists' colonies. Since the end of the 19th century, the special light over the Baltic Sea, the vast Bodden landscape, and the typical thatched-roof houses have attracted painters, sculptors, and craftspeople. The Kunstnacht makes this vibrant artistic heritage tangible in a single night.
The Kunstnacht Ahrenshoop 2026 transforms the entire artists' village into an open art trail on Saturday, August 15, from 6 p.m. onwards. Around 20 galleries, ceramic workshops, art and event venues offer a dense programme of exhibitions, concerts, readings, guided tours, dance performances, and performances – until well after midnight.
