Festival for new German feature films on the Baltic Sea
Since 2008, the Ahrenshoop Film Nights have been bringing together the German-speaking film scene in one of the most beautiful artists' villages on the Baltic Sea. THE GRAND Ahrenshoop serves as the festival hotel, offering an extraordinary backdrop for young German productions with its panoramic view over the Baltic Sea.
Six new German feature films – mostly debuts or promising productions by emerging talent – compete against each other. An expert jury awards the Jury Prize, and the audience chooses their own favorite. In parallel, the festival, in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Lukas, presents a special program with five additional film contributions, highlighting curatorial diversity.
A festive opening gala kicks off the festival – featuring the premiere of the opening film, a reception, and a live concert. The closing gala includes the awards ceremony, a buffet, and live music. Following the screenings, directors, producers, and actors engage in direct exchange with the audience.
Ahrenshoop is located on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). For over a century, the village has been an artists' colony with a tradition in painting, literature, and film. The Film Nights seamlessly integrate into this cultural heritage, making late November a highlight of the season on the Vorpommern Baltic coast.
The 19th edition of the Ahrenshoop Film Nights, from November 11 to 14, 2026, brings together the German-speaking film scene at THE GRAND Ahrenshoop for four days of competition, film discussions, and festive atmosphere by the Baltic Sea.
The festival opens on November 11th with the Opening Gala, featuring the screening of 'Ungeduld des Herzens' (Director: Lauro Cress) and a live concert by Atrin Madani & Hila Kulik. Until November 14th, the festival will screen six feature films in competition as well as a special program with five additional contributions in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Lukas. The jury for 2026 consists of Katharina Schüttler, Jeanette Hain, and Oliver Ziegenbalg; the audience will concurrently award the Audience Prize. The Closing Gala on November 14th, with the awards ceremony, buffet, and live music by Lina Maly, will provide a celebratory conclusion.
