10th Anniversary Edition at Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf — three days of Afrobeat, West African cuisine, and arts and crafts with free admission
The Afrika Festival Weilimdorf celebrates its 10th anniversary edition from June 20th to 22nd, 2026, at Ernst-Reuter-Platz in the heart of Stuttgart-Weilimdorf. The organizer is the association Baye-Fall e.V., a Senegalese-influenced initiative that has organized these three days annually around the Corpus Christi weekend since 2016. The festival is to be understood as a standalone event and should not be confused with the (larger) Afrika Festival Stuttgart, which takes place in Heslach.
Three days of live music with a clear Afrobeat focus: West African pop, Senegalese Mbalax, Highlife classics, Reggae with African influences. In addition, there are dance performances by Stuttgart and national groups, workshops (drumming, dance, fabric printing), and an arts and crafts market with jewelry, fabrics, wood and basketry, and small sculptures.
The culinary offerings at the festival are clearly West African: Senegalese Mafé (peanut sauce with beef, lamb, or chicken), Yassa (lemon-onion chicken), Thieboudienne (the Senegalese national dish of rice and fish), accompanied by hibiscus juice (Bissap) and ginger water. There are also dishes from the Maghreb, West Africa in general, and Central African cuisine.
With around 33,000 inhabitants, Weilimdorf is one of Stuttgart's larger districts, located in the northwest of the city. Ernst-Reuter-Platz is the central public square — from there, district facilities, churches, and the local market originate. For three days in June, the square becomes the showcase for Stuttgart's African diaspora — one of the city's lesser-known but most vibrant intercultural festivals.
The association Baye-Fall e.V. is the driving force behind the festival. The Baye Fall movement is a Senegalese Sufi brotherhood and stands for work, community, and spiritual commitment. The Stuttgart association sees the festival as a cultural bridge and educational offering — those interested can participate in workshops or engage in conversations with the organizers about Senegal and West Africa.
The tenth edition solidifies the festival concept: Afrobeat and Mbalax live sets on the main stage, with parallel dance groups, drumming workshops, and a fabric printing studio. The arts and crafts market is open throughout the three days, and the food stalls — serving Mafé, Yassa, Thieboudienne, and Bissap — form the culinary backbone.
The exact lineup for 2026 will be published on the festival's Facebook event page two to three weeks before the date. The Baye-Fall association deliberately keeps the program flexible until then to react to short-term travel and visa issues — many acts come directly from West Africa.
Current lineup and stage times available on the festival's Facebook event page.
Free admission on all three days. Food at the stalls at typical street festival prices: main courses €8–€12, Bissap and ginger water €3–€4.
Take the U6 or U13 subway lines to the Löwen-Markt or Wolfbusch stop, then a short walk to Ernst-Reuter-Platz. By car, take the A81 (Zuffenhausen/Weilimdorf exit) or B295. Parking is available on surrounding streets — usually manageable on weekends.
Free admission on all three days.
The detailed lineup will be published on the event's Facebook page two to three weeks before the date.
