Family festival at Löwen-Platz with Sunday shopping
Weilimdorf is the most populous of Stuttgart's 23 districts (around 32,000 inhabitants) and is located in the west of the state capital. The once independent village was incorporated into Stuttgart in 1933 and has retained its village charm to this day — with Löwen-Platz, parish church, and an active club scene. The Maibaumfest on Löwen-Platz is one of the central district events of the year.
The 2026 festival falls on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10. A fortunate coincidence that makes the festival particularly family-friendly. Opening at 11:30 AM with the traditional barrel tapping — the district mayor or club chairman taps the first barrel, officially starting the festival.
The musical opening is by the Musikverein Weilimdorf — the local brass band — with a traditional repertoire. Later in the day, the Sextett Villa Jazz — a six-piece jazz combo from the Stuttgart area — takes over with swing, classic jazz, and relaxed styles that underscore the May festival atmosphere.
Specially for families and children, there is a children's play street, a large bouncy castle, skill games from a local youth project, and a classic carousel. A raffle with prizes from local businesses is also part of the program. The Stuttgart AOK offers a health stand with advice and a small raffle.
The culinary catering is — typically Swabian — in the hands of a club: the Weilimdorfer Ringer. They serve hearty grilled specialties, homemade Maultaschen, cocktails from Weilimdorf bars, crêpes, and ice cream from the Bonatti ice cream parlor. Draft beer and local wines complete the offer.
From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the Weilimdorf town center is open for shopping — the stores at Löwen-Markt and in the Giebeler Einkaufszentrum open their doors. A perfect combination of a district festival and relaxed Mother's Day shopping.
The 2026 Maibaumfest fortunately falls on Mother's Day — Sunday, May 10. Opening at 11:30 AM with the traditional barrel tapping on Löwen-Platz. Afterwards, music, family program, and Sunday shopping in the town center shape the day.
