Anniversary festival of two Brück districts with medieval roots
Gömnigk and Trebitz are two districts of the town of Brück in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, state of Brandenburg. Both place names refer to Slavic roots — Gömnigk derives from the Slavic "gomon" (noise, gathering), and Trebitz from the Slavic "trebiti" (to clear land). The first documented mention of Gömnigk in 1251 — as "Gomenik" — marks the beginning of its recorded history and thus the occasion for the 775th anniversary in 2026. Trebitz is mentioned in medieval sources as a neighboring settlement and has shared its fate and identity with Gömnigk for centuries.
The Zauche region, where Gömnigk and Trebitz are located, is characterized by rolling sandy soils, small forests, and a long agricultural tradition. The town of Brück has been a town since 1937 and, since the 2003 administrative reform, the seat of the Brück office with several associated municipalities. The districts of Gömnigk and Trebitz retain their village character and maintain their identity through active associations — especially the Fire and Tradition Association.
The anniversary festival from June 26th to 28th, 2026, will be celebrated on the Gömnigk sports field. The exact program will be published by the Fire and Tradition Association Gömnigk/Trebitz in the spring of 2026. Based on experience, such an anniversary festival in Brandenburg typically includes: a parade through the villages on Saturday, a formal ceremony with honors, live music by regional bands, fire brigade demonstrations, club stands, a children's program, a dance evening, and a festive service on Sunday with an open-air service and catering by local clubs.
Here you will experience a typical Brandenburg anniversary festival: organized by volunteers, anchored in the village center, with a strong connection to history and warm hospitality. Brück is only 50 kilometers from Berlin, easily accessible by the RE7 train — a perfect opportunity to discover rural Brandenburg beyond the usual tourist routes.
