Anniversary celebration of the Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn under the water tower
The Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn (MBB) is one of the most impressive narrow-gauge railways in Central Germany. It serves the former copper shale mining landscape in the Mansfelder Land and today transports excursion travelers through a region where Europe's most important copper mining once took place. The MBB association, which operates the line with volunteer commitment, celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2026 — founded in 1991, after the end of regular railway operations by GDR Reichsbahn.
As the highlight of the anniversary celebrations, the association invites you to the "Rocking Station Breakfast Gathering" at the station of Lutherstadt Eisleben on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 10 AM to 2 PM. The historic water tower — once a supply point for steam locomotives — forms the backdrop for a convivial morning with rock music, bratwurst, beer, and encounters between old railway workers, railway enthusiasts, and families from the region. Admission is free.
During the breakfast gathering, the railway facilities will be open: historic locomotives can be viewed, the association provides insights into its restoration work, and volunteers and association members will present memories from 35 years of MBB at a small stand. Those who are not yet familiar with the line can get information from the association about the regular 2026 excursion trips (Teddy Bear Express, Glück Auf Hike, Mansfelder Oktoberfest, St. Nicholas trips).
Eisleben, Luther's birthplace and deathplace, is the second major Luther city in Saxony-Anhalt and a UNESCO World Heritage site with the Luther Memorials. At the same time, copper shale mining has shaped the city's identity for centuries — Glück Auf! is more than just a miner's greeting here. The station festival fits perfectly into this identity: a down-to-earth anniversary with rock music that celebrates mining history and carries its memory into the future. A typical Mansfeld Volksfest (folk festival) in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn invites you to the station breakfast gathering from 10 AM to 2 PM. A free morning festival that combines the 35th association anniversary with rock music, bratwurst, beer, and the history of the Mansfeld narrow-gauge railway.
Note: Specific bands will be announced by the association in the summer weeks of 2026.
By train to Lutherstadt Eisleben (regular trains), the station is the event venue itself. By car via the A38 or B80, parking available at the station.
Sunday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM.
Free. Food and drinks for purchase.
Luther's Birthplace and Deathplace are only a few minutes' walk from the station — UNESCO World Heritage and mining heritage can be experienced well in one day.
