150 Years Volunteer Fire Department Sersheim

The Volunteer Fire Department Sersheim was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest fire departments in the Ludwigsburg district today. In 2026, it will celebrate its 150th anniversary — an occasion for a grand festive weekend that involves the public in the fire station and the history of the association.

Anniversary Celebration July 3rd to 4th, 2026

The festive weekend runs from Friday, July 3rd, to Sunday, July 4th, 2026 — precisely two days around the fire station in Sersheim. An internal celebration will also take place in the autumn, but the main public event is the anniversary celebration in July.

Inauguration of the New HLF

A central program item is the inauguration of a new technical assistance fire engine (HLF). The HLF combines a water tank, firefighting equipment, and technical rescue gear — a key operational vehicle for modern fire departments. The ceremonial inauguration with the mayor, district administrator, and pastor is a highlight of the weekend.

The Fire Department in Numbers (End of 2025)

The Sersheim Fire Department has 90 members in three departments: 52 active firefighters, 23 members in the veteran's department, and 14 members in the youth fire department. In 2025, the fire department responded to 44 calls, with an average response time of 4.65 minutes — a very good performance for a rural fire department. Notably: 59% of the calls occurred at night. Throughout the year, the department conducted 55 drills — the focus in 2025 was on combating vegetation fires, a competence shared across five municipalities.

Festival Program for the Public

The program opens the fire station to the public: demonstrations (firefighting with a turntable ladder, technical rescue with cutters and spreaders), ceremonial act with speeches and promotions, formal ceremony with the music association, catering with Swabian specialties — Maultaschen, Schwarzwurst, potato salad, vegetarian options, draft beer. For children, there is a mini-firefighter station with a water spray test and helmet try-ons.
