Founding festival for the one-and-a-half-century anniversary
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Gansheim was founded in 1876 — a time when, after the founding of the German Empire, the organized fire brigade system was systematically established in Bavaria. 150 years later, the brigade is an indispensable part of village life: it not only ensures fire protection and technical assistance in Gansheim and the surrounding villages of the Marxheim municipality but also serves as a social meeting point, fostering club life and traditions.
As is customary for Bavarian fire brigade anniversaries, the program is divided into three parts: Friday opening festivities with marquee operations and live music, Saturday festive evening with dancing and performances by guest bands, Sunday church service, parade of all surrounding brigades and clubs, and concluding festivities. Brigades from neighboring municipalities — and usually fire brigade delegations from partner communities in other federal states — are invited and participate in the parade.
A fire brigade anniversary in a small community like Gansheim is more than just a club festival: it is a civic celebration in which all generations participate, the local brass band plays, the population of the main town comes together with the other Marxheim districts, and the self-image of the village community becomes visible. The fire brigade itself uses the anniversary as an opportunity to document its history — a commemorative publication is usually produced, and sometimes a special exhibition is organized.
Gansheim is a district of the municipality of Marxheim in the Donau-Ries district. The agriculturally characterized region between the Danube and Lech rivers, south of the Nördlinger Ries, is a classic image of Bavarian Swabia. With its 150th anniversary, Gansheim joins the numerous Bavarian brigades that will celebrate their centenary anniversaries in the coming years — a wave that will shape club life in village communities for years to come.
With its 150th anniversary, the Gansheim brigade reaches a milestone that attracts attention in the Marxheim municipality as well as in the neighboring Donau-Ries region. The festival program follows the classic structure of Bavarian fire brigade anniversaries — opening ceremony, marquee festivities, parade, church service.
Detailed program information will be communicated via the Donau-Ries District Fire Brigade Association and local media. Partner brigades and clubs from across the district will participate in the Sunday parade, contributing to the festive atmosphere.
