Three-day anniversary festival on the Danube
The Marxheim Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest brigades in the Donau-Ries district (Bavarian Swabia). For its 150th anniversary, it invites you to a three-day founding festival from May 1st to 3rd, 2026, bringing together the entire Danube community of Marxheim and neighboring towns. The festival is one of 16 fire brigade anniversaries being celebrated in the Donau-Ries district in 2026 – a testament to the strong roots of tradition surrounding fire brigades and village communities in northern Bavarian Swabia.
The festival weekend begins on Friday, May 1st, 2026, with the classic evening of entertainment in the festival tent. The Original D'Lechtaler Musikanten – a well-known brass band in the Donau-Ries region – will open the festival days with traditional music, accompanied by festival catering with local specialties. Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, will feature a program for children and seniors in the afternoon, followed by a big party night starting at 7 PM with the party band Jolly Sound. The highlight is Sunday, May 3rd, 2026:
Fire brigade anniversaries in Bavaria are far more than just club celebrations: they are meeting points for entire village communities, occasions for official honors, promotions, and awards for deserving firefighters, as well as a demonstration of the local commitment to volunteerism. Partner brigades from neighboring municipalities march in the parade, friendly associations send delegations, and hundreds – often several thousand – visitors from the entire region come together over the festival weekend.
The municipality of Marxheim is located directly on the Danube, in the north of the Donau-Ries district. The mouth of the Lech River into the Danube is just a few kilometers away. This geographical location – at the intersection of Swabia and Old Bavaria – also shapes the festival program, where Swabian and Bavarian musical traditions meet.
