150 Years Serving the Community

The Altenmünster Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1876 and in 2026 looks back on 150 years of voluntary service. Under the motto 'Voluntarily for us on site', the active members stand by the population in the Swabian town of Altenmünster. The 150th anniversary will be celebrated with a grand founding festival that transforms the entire town into a festival ground for several days.

The 2026 Founding Festival

From July 9th to 12th, 2026, the FFW Altenmünster will host its anniversary festival. A four-day fire brigade festival in Bavarian Swabia follows a tried-and-tested schedule:

• Thursday: Festival opening and beer tapping in the marquee
• Friday: Celebration evening with live music and party band
• Saturday: Festival activities, program for clubs and friendly brigades
• Sunday: Festive church service, grand parade through the town, and 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint/gathering)

The exact festival schedule will be announced by the fire brigade in advance via their festival brochure and communication channels.

Fire Brigade Festivals as Village Culture

In Bavarian Swabia, round fire brigade anniversaries are far more than just club celebrations. The Augsburg District Fire Brigade Association lists them in its festival calendar because they are among the largest and most identity-defining village festivals in the region. Friendly brigades arrive with their flag bearers, patron clubs accompany the parade, and the marquee becomes the meeting point for the entire community. For visitors from outside, such a festival offers an authentic insight into Swabian club and fire brigade tradition.
