The Swabian May Volksfest

Wertingen, a small Swabian district town in the Dillingen an der Donau district, sticks to a special feature: the Wertinger Volksfest spans two weekends in May – a tradition that allows for more days of festival culture than the common 3-4 day models of other Volksfeste. The entire May spring is festival season here.

The First Weekend (May, Thu-Sun)

It opens on Thursday with the Day of Associations and Business – free admission, performance by the Wertingen town band. Friday evening, the Partyhexen band provides the atmosphere (€5 admission). Saturday afternoon features a grand children's afternoon with "Andi und die Affenbande", and in the evening, the Joe Williams Band. Sunday offers a traditional Weißwurst breakfast with a DJ.

The Second Weekend (May, Wed-Sun)

From Wednesday evening, the SOS Partyband plays. Thursday is the highlight: the classic car and sports car meet with classic Bavarian cars and a beauty contest for the Cover Girl role. Friday features the Feierdeifi party band. Saturday is the family and seniors' afternoon with reduced ride prices, and on May 16th, free tickets for people with disabilities. Sunday concludes with the Ehinger Musikanten.

Festival Tent and Amusement Park

In the festival tent, various live bands and party bands provide the atmosphere. Specialities at fair prices: Maß of beer €7.50, selected main courses €2.50–€9.50. The amusement park offers classic rides – Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels for children – with family discounts on some days. The festival tent closes at 11 PM (later on main evenings).

Wertingen and the Donau-Ries

Wertingen is located between Augsburg and Donauwörth in the Swabian Donau-Ries region. The town, with its historic old town, Wertingen Castle (seat of the District President), and picturesque location on the Zusam river, is a worthwhile starting point. Those staying longer can combine the Volksfest with excursions to the Nördlinger Ries (40 km) or to Augsburg (40 km).
