First public benefit open air for the 15th anniversary in Hamburg's Stadtpark – Leony, SOPHIA, Max Giesinger
Since 2011, the association Kinderklinikkonzerte e.V. has been bringing musicians directly to the wards of German children's hospitals – to cancer wards, intensive care units, and child and adolescent psychiatry wards. The concept is as simple as it is effective: where children cannot go to concerts due to their illness, the concerts come to them. 15 years of association work, hundreds of concerts, thousands of young patients who have experienced live music – that is the balance sheet.
For its 15th anniversary, the movement is coming to the open-air stage for the first time: The benefit open air on May 24, 2026, at the Stadtpark open-air stage in Hamburg is the first public children's hospital concert ever. The association, which usually works in protected hospital environments, is thus opening up to the general public and using the benefit concert format for fundraising and visibility.
Three stars of German pop music have confirmed their participation. Leony – who had her breakthrough in 2021 with "Faded Love" and has since become one of the most influential voices in the German pop charts. SOPHIA – who has built a loyal fan base with her singles "Mehr von dir" and "Wenn nichts mehr geht." Max Giesinger – active as an association patron for years and not only a headliner in 2026 but also the emotional anchor of the evening. In addition, other special guests whose names will be announced shortly before the concert.
All profits from ticket sales will go directly to Kinderklinikkonzerte e.V. The money finances the association's touring concerts: fees, travel expenses, and setup for the mobile concerts, which must fit into the wards' routine. Buying a ticket means supporting a social initiative.
Since 1928, the Stadtpark open-air stage in Hamburg has been one of Northern Germany's most prominent open-air venues – located in the Winterhude district, Hamburg-Nord borough. With over 4,000 seats and standing places, it is the ideal venue for concerts of this scale. The organizers, Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion, have been running the "Stadtpark Open Air" summer series for decades, regularly bringing stars like Bryan Adams, Mark Knopfler, and Tracy Chapman to the stage. In 2026, the benefit open air will be a focal point of the programming within this established series.
The date, Pentecost Sunday (May 24, 2026), is well-chosen: a public holiday when many Hamburg residents are free, without it being the start of the main summer weekend. This means the concert does not compete with other major events. In the state of Hamburg, the benefit open air is the most significant pop concert event of Spring 2026.
The 2026 edition is the first of its kind and thus a historic moment for the association: for 15 years, Kinderklinikkonzerte e.V. exclusively performed in protected hospital environments – with patients in their wards, concerts without admission fees, without advance ticket sales. With the open-air format, the association is opening up to the general public for the first time. Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion is organizing the concert; Hamburg pop stars are supporting it voluntarily.
The date, Pentecost Sunday, falls on a public holiday in the state of Hamburg, making travel and the early concert experience easier. The Stadtpark open-air stage is one of Germany's most historic open-air venues (founded in 1928); it is the ideal size for a charitable event of this scale.
