Political techno demonstration for solidarity and social justice — through Berlin
When Berliners block off Eberswalder Straße at the end of August, fifteen trucks with sound systems roll up, thousands of dancers gather, and the first bass booms through Prenzlauer Berg, an unusual Berlin event begins: the Zug der Liebe. Unlike commercial parades such as the Loveparade or Rave the Planet, it is officially a political demonstration — a format that has a special legal status in Germany: freedom of assembly, free admission, no tickets.
The Zug der Liebe was founded in 2015 by Zug der Liebe e.V. — an association of organizers, musicians, and media professionals. The political objective is clearly formulated: a statement for solidarity, social justice, and social engagement. Specific focal points:
The procession typically starts around 1:00 p.m. at Eberswalder Straße / Mauerpark in the Prenzlauer Berg district. It then moves through Volkspark Friedrichshain, across Alexanderplatz, and towards Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg, where it ends around 9:00 p.m. Thousands of dancers join the trucks along the route — in good weather, 20,000–30,000 participants are not uncommon.
In contrast to the commercial Loveparade, the Zug der Liebe is deliberately political, deliberately non-commercial, and free of charge. The trucks are provided by associations, collectives, and political initiatives; booking is not handled by large promoters, but by the respective organizers. The Zug der Liebe is thus one of the few major events that combine Berlin as a city of political movements with Berlin as a city of electronic music.
The 2026 edition, with the motto “Basses connect,” focuses on the connecting aspect of music and political engagement. 15 trucks start around 1:00 p.m. at Eberswalder Straße / Mauerpark and follow the typical route through Prenzlauer Berg, Volkspark Friedrichshain, Alexanderplatz, and end in Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg. New for 2026: the “Truck = Theme = Association” concept reverses the hierarchy — political themes become the umbrella, and individual trucks align under them. This aims to bring back the political edge of 2019.
