Month-long art festival with open studios in Pankow
With over 400,000 inhabitants, the Pankow district is one of Berlin's largest and one of the most densely populated artist quarters in Germany. Prenzlauer Berg, Weißensee, Pankow-Mitte, and the outlying areas are home to hundreds of studios, small and large off-spaces, several established galleries, and the Milchhof artists' house — one of Berlin's most traditional artists' houses. artspring berlin bundles this scattered scene into a month-long program once a year.
In 2026, the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with the motto 'kein Ruder war nicht dran' — a double-entendre alluding to mobility and control. The opening will be on April 30, 2026, starting at 6 PM at Milchhof, Schwedter Straße 232, one of the district's historic artists' house addresses. Milchhof itself turns 35 in 2026 — the two anniversaries will be celebrated together. Spread throughout the month are around 300 studios, several exhibition venues, its own art film festival from May 11 to 13 at the Kino in der Brotfabrik, and a closely-knit supporting program.
The festival's highlight is traditionally the open studios on the last weekend (May 30–31, 2026). Around 300 artists open their studios to the public — painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation, performance, all disciplines represented. In addition, throughout the month: exhibitions in the Rathaus-Galerie Pankow (until September 30) and at several other locations, the art film festival 'Auf zu neuen Ufern!' (May 11–13 at Kino in der Brotfabrik), readings at the Verwalterhaus (May 17, 21, 28), pop-up stores, guided art walks through the Bornholmer Gärten on May 9, artspring Radio with daily broadcasts, and performance programs.
The 10th anniversary edition of artspring berlin runs from April 30 to May 31, 2026, under the motto 'kein Ruder war nicht dran'. The opening takes place at Milchhof, the traditional artists' house on Schwedter Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, which celebrates its 35th anniversary concurrently. Throughout the month, a dense program of exhibitions, film festival, readings, performances, guided walks, and artspring Radio will take place. As every year, the highlight is the open studios weekend on May 30 and 31 with around 300 Pankow artists.
