Six Decades of Cultural Winter in Zerbst
Zerbst/Anhalt is a city with a great historical heritage: the later Russian Empress Catherine II, known as Catherine the Great, was born and raised here. Even without the summer tourist crowds, the city has had a fixed cultural date in its calendar since 1966: the Zerbster Kulturfesttage. For four weeks during the winter months, the city's venues — Museum, Francisceum, Essenzen-Fabrik, Theaterscheune, Rathaus — are filled with a packed programme.
In 2026, the 61st edition will run from February 13th to March 15th, featuring 29 individual events and six exhibitions. The programme is classically broad: chamber music and choral singing, classical readings as well as thrillers and crime comedy, punk violin in the Essenzen-Fabrik, concerts by the city's chamber choir, sing-along programmes in the Alumnatskorridor. Zerbst is located in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — ideal as a quiet cultural destination in the dreary winter.
