Nighttime wine tasting with award-winning wines from Zell vintners in the city center
While the major Mosel wine festivals focus on mass consumption and marquee atmosphere, a second strand has established itself in recent years: wine evenings dedicated to tasting as a cultural practice. The Zeller WeinKulturNacht is one of these formats and is aimed at everyone who wants to experience the Mosel as a high-quality wine region, beyond traditional bands and festival tents.
The concept is based on a route of stations. At several locations in Zell's city center – wine cellars, courtyards, small bars, possibly also rooms of historical significance – Zell vintners open their tastings. A joint admission ticket allows access to all stations; visitors decide for themselves which stations they visit and how long they stay at each location. The selection of wines focuses on award-winning vintages from the past season: Rieslings with high ratings in wine guides or competitions, Spätlesen, Auslesen, ice wine tastings (if available), sparkling wines from traditional bottle fermentation.
The nighttime atmosphere of the illuminated old town of Zell lends the format its own ambiance. During the evening, guests move around in small groups between the stations, meet friends, chat with the vintners, and get to know the characteristics of the individual wines. Small snacks, often typical Mosel fare like grapes with cheese, charcuterie, or bread with spreads, complement the wines. The event typically lasts from evening until late into the night.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Zell (Mosel) and the participating vintners in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: admission in the early evening, several stations each with its own focus (dry Rieslings, Spätlesen and noble sweet wines, sparkling wines, regional specialties), small snacks at the stations, continuous strolling between the tasting venues until the late hours of the night.
