About Wustweiler Kirmes

Over the Pentecost weekend, the festival grounds at the Seelbachhalle are transformed into a three-day village fair. The local council and the Wustweiler village community association jointly organize the event – a typical Saarland Volksfest (village fair) in the Illingen district with Frühschoppen (morning pint), live music, and convivial gatherings.

Wustweiler – a district of Illingen in Saarland

Wustweiler is one of the four districts of the municipality of Illingen in the Neunkirchen district. With around 1,300 inhabitants, it is a small Saarland village that, as is typical for the region, cultivates an active club life. The Wustweiler Kirmes is the village's annual highlight, where generations meet and old acquaintances are refreshed.

Three-day village fair

The festival starts on Pentecost Saturday at 6:00 PM, runs through Pentecost Sunday, and ends on Pentecost Monday. The venue is the Seelbachhalle festival grounds, which offers ample space for a festival tent, stage, amusement rides, and food stalls. The multi-purpose hall serves as a covered alternative in case of bad weather.

Club-run catering

Like many small village fairs in Saarland, the Wustweiler Kirmes relies on club catering: The local council and the Wustweiler village community association jointly organize food, drinks, and the program. The proceeds go towards club activities and the maintenance of village community life. The menu features classic Saarland specialties: Schwenker (marinated pork skewers) from the charcoal grill, Lyoner sausages, homemade salads, coffee, and cake.

Frühschoppen and live music

The Pentecost Sunday Frühschoppen is traditionally the convivial highlight of the Wustweiler Kirmes – after the church service, villagers and guests gather on the festival grounds, often accompanied by live music from a regional band or a music club. In the evenings, the musical program alternates between cover bands and DJ sets. Family activities during the day keep the youngest Kirmes visitors entertained.

In the Neunkirchen district

Illingen is located in northwestern Saarland, in the Neunkirchen district, which, along with Eppelborn, Ottweiler, Schiffweiler, and others, includes some of the most vibrant Saarland Volksfest communities. Wustweiler lies in the valley of the Seelbach, a small tributary of the Saar. A typical Saarland village with half-timbered houses, the parish church, and the Seelbachhalle as its focal point.
