3rd Edition — International Art Market with Coffee-Cake-Art Festival
Wurzen, a small town steeped in tradition in the Muldental valley, part of the Leipzig district, has been a center of Saxon manufacturing for centuries — Pulsnitz gingerbread, Wurzen flour, bakeries. The historic Manufakturhöfe on Badergraben are now a creative quarter with studios, workshops, and cafés. Since 2024, this location has hosted an unusual art market once a year, bringing international art to Saxony.
Over 35 artists from German cities and from Prague, Spain, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Pakistan exhibit and sell their works — an unusually diverse mix for a market of this size. Painting, photography, graphics, sculpture, and ceramics meet, with many artists present to engage in conversations with visitors and potential buyers.
Running parallel to the art market is the Coffee-Cake-Art Festival — a culinary accompanying event with cakes and pastries based on German and Latin American recipes. The combination of contemporary art and sweet culinary delights is the true identity of the Wurzen market: Instead of a classic market stroll, it creates an afternoon that meanders between workshop talks, studio visits, and coffee breaks.
The market is under the patronage of Mayor Marcel Buchta, positioning Wurzen as an art location beyond the major Saxon cities. With its international focus — artists from Latin America and South Asia are rare at a market of this size — the format sends a clear signal in the Leipzig region. Admission is free; art and coffee are purchased on-site.
The market extends across the entire Manufakturhöfe grounds, utilizing both the courtyards and the studios and workshops. Artists will be present on both days for discussions with visitors. Works of all genres will be offered — painting, photography, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media.
The Coffee-Cake-Art Festival, featuring German classics (cheesecake, crumble cake, plum cake) and Latin American specialties (Tres Leches, Alfajores, Conchas), runs concurrently on both days. The patronage of Mayor Marcel Buchta underscores the market's significance for the city of Wurzen.
