„kunst erfahren" – 12 open studios and art spaces in Würselen with accompanying programme at the Kulturzentrum Altes Rathaus
The Würselener Kunstroute is a format where artists in a city open their studios for a weekend. Instead of a central exhibition or gallery, the public moves from studio to studio, sees workspaces, talks to the artists, and buys directly. The format has established itself in many NRW cities in recent years; in Würselen, 2026 marks its 5th edition – the classic turning point towards an established neighbourhood format.
The 5th Würselener Kunstroute 2026 takes place on Saturday, June 20th, and Sunday, June 21st, 2026, each from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The main point of contact is the Kulturzentrum Altes Rathaus at Kaiserstraße 36, which houses the central information point. From there, routes lead to the participating studios throughout the city.
The documentary film „Triegel trifft Cranach" will be shown as a prelude to the art route at the Metropolis Filmkunsttheater Würselen. The film follows Leipzig painter Michael Triegel as he encounters Cranach's works at the Kunsthalle Aachen – a connection between historical and contemporary figurative painting.
Mayor Roger Nießen is the patron. The organisers are the Kulturstiftung Würselen and the City of Würselen. The Förderkreis Asyl Würselen e.V. brings Ukrainian artists Taisija and Georgiy Zaychenko into the programme – an inclusive statement by the art route.
Würselen is a city of around 39,000 inhabitants in the Aachen district, located directly north of the imperial city of Aachen. For decades, the city was shaped by industry (Eschweiler textile industry) and mining. Today, Würselen is increasingly positioning itself culturally as a suburb with its own identity – and the Kunstroute is one of the central formats for this self-affirmation.
The 5th edition of the Würselener Kunstroute 2026 is organised by the Kulturstiftung Würselen and the City of Würselen. Mayor Roger Nießen is the patron.
Admission to all studios and the information point is free. Artworks can be purchased on-site (negotiate prices directly with the artists).
By train to Aachen, then take bus 11, 25, or 41 to Würselen Markt. By car, take the A4 (exit Aachen-Laurensberg) or the A44 (exit Aachen-Brand).
Parking available at the Kulturzentrum Altes Rathaus and in Würselen's city centre.
Admission to all studios and the information point is free. Artworks can be purchased on-site.
The Kulturzentrum Altes Rathaus hosts a central information stand with maps, programme booklets, and route suggestions. Some studios offer refreshments, others do not – bring water and small snacks for longer routes.
Allow ample time – with twelve stations, you won't see them all in one day. Plan for one day for each half of the weekend (Saturday for the city centre, Sunday for the outer studios). The Ukrainian artists Taisija and Georgiy Zaychenko are a highlight – an encounter with art from an exile context.
