Hammer Alpenglüh'n — Oktoberfest in the heart of Westphalia
With the Hammer Alpenglüh'n, the Zentralhallen Hamm bring the Bavarian Oktoberfest feeling to Westphalian Hamm. For two evenings — Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2026 — the event hall, with over 85 years of tradition, will be transformed into a Bavarian alpine atmosphere: Lederhosen, Dirndl, Bavarian live music, delicacies, and draft beer. A format that has had a loyal fan base in Hamm and the surrounding area for years.
The stage, the beer, the atmosphere
The format follows the Westphalian tradition of 'out-of-town Oktoberfests' — events that reproduce the Munich Wiesn (Oktoberfest) feeling outside of Bavaria, often becoming even more intense and celebratory than the original. Expected are:
- Bavarian live bands on stage — a mix of traditional folk music classics, party hits, and more modern tunes
- Lederhosen and Dirndl as the preferred dress code (not mandatory, but appreciated)
- Bavarian delicacies such as Brezn (pretzels), Weißwurst (white sausage) with sweet mustard, Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Obatzda (cheese spread)
- Draft beer served in Maßkrugs (liter steins)
- Long tables in a beer tent atmosphere
Zentralhallen Hamm — Tradition since 1939
The Zentralhallen Hamm are one of Westphalia's most traditional event venues. Founded in 1939 as a livestock trading center, they are now a modern multi-purpose hall attracting over 180,000 visitors annually. The spectrum ranges from comedy shows to tribute concerts (Michael Jackson, Metallica), trade fairs, and seasonal markets. The Alpenglüh'n is a regular part of the annual program.
Hamm in Westphalia
With almost 180,000 inhabitants, Hamm is one of the largest cities in Westphalia, located in the southeastern Münsterland region at the transition to the Ruhr area. The city is a classic transport hub (large marshalling yard, intersection of several motorways) and is therefore easily accessible from the entire Ruhr area, Münsterland, and Sauerland. The Hammer Alpenglüh'n accordingly attracts guests from a wide catchment area.
