Four-day marksmen's festival of the Jesteburg Marksmen's Association of 1864 on the Am Alten Moor fairground
The Jesteburg Marksmen's Association of 1864 e.V. looks back on over 160 years of club history and is one of the oldest traditional institutions in the municipality of Jesteburg in the Harburg district. The annual main festival on the club's own fairground Am Alten Moor forms the highlight of the club year and brings together the marksmen families as well as the entire village community.
The Am Alten Moor fairground is located on the outskirts of Jesteburg and is accessible via normal signage. The festival tent, shooting range, amusement park, and outdoor areas are laid out so that all program points are centrally accessible. Parking is available in the surrounding area.
The municipality of Jesteburg lies between heathlands and forests on the Hamburg–Lüneburg railway line. The marksmen's tradition has been deeply rooted in village life here for generations. Bird shooting, proclamation of the king, and the parade follow the classic ritual passed down from generation to generation. The majesties – the marksmen king, the ladies' queen, and the youth marksmen king – represent the club at the festivals of neighbouring clubs, thus carrying the tradition beyond the municipal borders.
Carousels, dodgems, and shooting galleries are part of the permanent inventory of the fairground and also make the marksmen's festival a small folk festival kirmes for families. Sunday, with the parade and morning pint, is traditionally the busiest day, when grandparents, parents, and children experience the parade along the main street and then head into the festival tent together.
The Jesteburg Marksmen's Association is a member of the Harburg District Marksmen's Association and is integrated into the Nordheide Marksmen's District. Delegations from friendly clubs from Hanstedt, Heidenau, Asendorf, and other places in the municipality are invited to the parade, thus strengthening the supra-local character of the festival. This networking ensures the vitality of the marksmen's tradition in the Nordheide.
The 2026 edition, from June 5th to 8th, falls within the traditional early summer window for Nordheide marksmen's festivals. The four-day structure allows for a dense program of ceremonies, shooting competitions, dance evenings, and family activities.
The exact hourly schedule for the bird shooting, proclamation of the king, and parade will be published by the Jesteburg Marksmen's Association in spring 2026 on jesteburger-sv.de.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring and early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones:
