Lünen on the Lippe

Lünen, with almost 85,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the district of Unna and is located on the northern edge of the Ruhr area, directly on the Lippe river. The city is characterised by its former colliery and steel industry, but has undergone a successful structural change in recent decades: the Cinergy adventure pool, the Sportzentrum Schwanenwall, the Hilpertstraße shopping street, and the Lippe-Auen (Lippe floodplains) as a green belt around the city define today's Lünen.

Double Event: Herbstmarkt and Handwerks-Herbst

The special feature of the event: it is actually a double event. The "Herbstmarkt" (Autumn Market) brings regional vendors and club stands to the city centre. The "Handwerks-Herbst" (Crafts Autumn) – as a separate format – focuses on Lünen's crafts with demonstrations and market appearances. Carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, leatherworkers, and textile manufacturers from Lünen and the surrounding area present their workpieces and occasionally give demonstrations.

Programme in Detail

The day event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and fills the Lünen pedestrian zone with:

• Market stalls with regional products (honey, farm cheese, fruit and vegetables, baked goods)
• Craft demonstrations (goldsmiths, carpenters, pottery, textile printing)
• Club stands with Lünen sports, cultural, and social clubs
• Live music on a small stage (acoustic acts, brass bands)
