Double event in the city centre – crafts, regional products, live music
Lünen, with almost 85,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the district of Unna and is located on the northern edge of the Ruhr area, directly on the Lippe river. The city is characterised by its former colliery and steel industry, but has undergone a successful structural change in recent decades: the Cinergy adventure pool, the Sportzentrum Schwanenwall, the Hilpertstraße shopping street, and the Lippe-Auen (Lippe floodplains) as a green belt around the city define today's Lünen.
The special feature of the event: it is actually a double event. The "Herbstmarkt" (Autumn Market) brings regional vendors and club stands to the city centre. The "Handwerks-Herbst" (Crafts Autumn) – as a separate format – focuses on Lünen's crafts with demonstrations and market appearances. Carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, leatherworkers, and textile manufacturers from Lünen and the surrounding area present their workpieces and occasionally give demonstrations.
The day event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and fills the Lünen pedestrian zone with:
The Lünen pedestrian zone – especially around Hilpertstraße, the Marktplatz (Market Square), and Lange Straße – is well-suited for a day event of this kind: compact, walkable, easily accessible, with cafés and restaurants along the way where breaks are possible.
Those who come to Lünen for the Herbstmarkt should also explore the Lippeauen (Lippe floodplains) with a short hike, visit the Schiffshebewerk Henrichenburg (Henrichenburg Ship Lift) in Datteln-Waltrop, or cycle along the Datteln-Hamm Canal. The Ruhr area, in its northern transition to the Münsterland region, shows its greener side.
The 2026 edition continues the established day event. The City of Lünen is organising the double event with market vendors, craftspeople, and clubs from the region.
