Scotland meets Dithmarschen
The Wrohm Highland Games are the summer festival of MTV Wrohm — and at the same time a lovingly tongue-in-cheek take on the Scottish Highland tradition. The fact that logs are thrown and stones are hurled precisely in flat Dithmarschen is part of the event's charm. MTV Wrohm — the Men's Gymnastics Club Wrohm, one of the oldest sports clubs in the village — organizes the festival annually on the first Saturday in July.
Disciplines
The sports program is based on classic Highland Games disciplines, translated into what the village and MTV can achieve technically and logistically:
- Log Throwing (the Scottish Caber Toss) — a log is thrown so that it flips over and lands as straight as possible
- Stone Throw — throwing a heavy stone for distance
- Weight Throw — hurling a weight for distance or height
- Tug-of-War — team discipline
- Other disciplines such as sack race, barrel rolling, or hay bale lifting depending on the edition
Surrounding Program
In addition to the sports program, there is musical entertainment (usually no bagpipes, but live bands or DJs), classic festival catering with bratwurst, fries, cake, and beer, as well as children's activities for the younger visitors. The Highland Games are a typical North German village sports festival with a winkingly conceptual hook.
Wrohm in Dithmarschen

With around 500 inhabitants, the village is manageable; the MTV Wrohm and its sports field on Hohlweg are the social center. The Highland Games are one of the most popular summer festivals in Wrohm and attract guests from all over the Dithmarschen region.
