Wolnzach Advent Tradition

The Wolnzach Christmas Market traditionally takes place on the third weekend of Advent on the market square in the center of Wolnzach. The market town in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in the state of Bavaria is located in the heart of the Hallertau, the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world. The market municipality of Wolnzach is the organizer in close cooperation with clubs, parishes, and local businesses.

Stalls, Stalls, Stalls

Around 25 clubs, kindergartens, and parishes create the offering outdoors on the market square. In the market hall, about 15 hobby artists present their handicrafts: nativity figures, Christmas tree decorations, knitted and felt items, woodwork, and gift ideas from the region.

Culinary Delights with a Hallertau Touch

Culinary expectations include Bavarian Advent cuisine: goulash soup in bread, breaded mushrooms with remoulade, hot chestnuts, and bratwurst provide a hearty atmosphere, while mulled wine (Glühwein), punch, and children's punch offer warming drinks. The Hallertau hop also finds its way into special drinks and breads.

Advent Concerts and Children's Program

The spiritual and musical framework is provided by Advent concerts in the Protestant Church of the Resurrection and the Catholic Parish Church of St. Laurentius. For children, there is a petting zoo, pony rides, and the traditional visit from St. Nicholas with gifts from his sack. A personality from Wolnzach often reads from classic Christmas stories in the market hall.

Community Festival of the Hop Metropolis

The Christmas Market expressly sees itself as a community festival for the market town of Wolnzach. The proceeds from the club stalls benefit local clubs, parishes, and social causes. Thus, the market combines tradition, handicrafts, Advent music, and lived neighborliness.
