Traditional Volksfest in the heart of the Hallertau hop-growing region
The Hallertauer Volksfest in Wolnzach is one of the traditional Bavarian folk festivals and takes place annually in August on the Volksfestplatz (festival grounds). Wolnzach is located in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria and is considered the center of the Hallertau – by far the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world.
It offers a classic Volksfest with a large beer tent, festival caterer, beer garden, and an amusement park with rides. A parade through the town, live music on several days, senior afternoons, and a family day with reduced prices are part of the regular program.
The close connection to the hop industry makes the festival special: Wolnzach is home to the German Hop Museum. In the context of the Hallertau festivities, a Hop Queen is traditionally crowned, representing the region as an ambassador. The Volksfest thus celebrates not only Bavarian conviviality but also the agricultural identity of the Hallertau.
For the people of Wolnzach and the surrounding hop villages, the Volksfest is the social highlight of the summer. Clubs, families, and guests from all over the Pfaffenhofen district meet in the beer tent and on the festival grounds.
With traditional costume, brass band music, beer from the region, and the omnipresent hops, the Hallertauer Volksfest embodies the cultural uniqueness of Upper Bavaria away from the big cities – down-to-earth, convivial, and deeply rooted in agricultural tradition.
The 2026 edition is the 76th Hallertauer Volksfest and runs from Friday, August 7, to Monday, August 17, 2026, on the Volksfestplatz Wolnzach.

The organizer is the market town of Wolnzach in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
