Iphofen: Noble Wine Growing Area in Mainfranken

The small town of Iphofen in the Kitzingen district, on the eastern edge of the Franconian wine region, is one of the most prominent addresses for Franconian viticulture. The famous vineyards Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg, Iphöfer Kalb, and Iphöfer Kronsberg have produced top wines for centuries – above all the Franconian Silvaner, but also Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, and elegant Pinot Noir. With the Weinfreunde Iphofen eG, an association of 16–17 local family wineries, Iphofen is particularly well-organized cooperatively.

The Weinwürfel Concept

The Marktplatz Winzerfest has established a modern design concept in its current form: Instead of the traditional, often uniform wooden stalls, the Iphofen winemakers present themselves in five modern »Weinwürfel« – architecturally appealing pavilions made of light wood and glass, where several winemakers serve their wines. In total, around 50 different wines from Iphofen's top locations are available for tasting. The atmosphere is relaxed and directly Franconian: If you order a glass (Schoppen), you'll almost inevitably get chatting with the winemaker.

Live Music, House Schoppen, and Cabaret

The program is accompanied by music daily. On Friday evening, the Hopferstättern play live, followed by DJs (e.g., Blau & Laut) with the so-called »House-Schoppen«. Saturday features Daily Friday, a popular Franconian cover band, and electronic music from midnight. Sunday traditionally focuses on the cabaret program: in 2026 again with Bavarian comedian Chris Boettcher (tickets in advance €22, at the box office €25). The festival Monday concludes with the Almrockern as a festive finale.

Iphofen Gastronomy and Food Trucks

The Iphofen inns – especially the Weinstuben Iphofen, the Hotel zur Iphöfer Kammer, and the Hotel-Restaurant Gasthof zur Schwane – as well as regional food trucks provide guests with Franconian delicacies: Schäuferla (pork shoulder), bratwurst, steaks, fries, Franconian tapas, hearty snack platters, and bakery specialties. Coffee and cake are also on offer.

More Than Just a Town Festival

The Marktplatz Winzerfest combines Franconian wine culture with contemporary festival aesthetics. Instead of classic beer tent hustle and bustle, visitors experience a curated, high-quality wine festival with a design focus. The Weinfreunde Iphofen eG also operates a wine shop, an online shop, and wine experience offerings, making Iphofen one of the most experience-oriented wine towns in Mainfranken. Shuttle buses connect the Iphofen districts and neighboring towns with the market square during the festival weekend.
