Folk Music on Pentecost in the Pfaffenwinkel

The Wildsteiger Pfingstsingen is a traditional folk music and singing evening that the Trachtenverein Alpengruß Wildsteig has been organizing for over 60 years on Pentecost in the community hall. Wildsteig is located in the district of Weilheim-Schongau in the romantic Pfaffenwinkel – a landscape in the Upper Bavarian foothills of the Alps, known for its rich tradition and pilgrimage culture (nearby: the Wieskirche).

An Evening for Voices and String Instruments

At the Pfingstsingen, singers and music groups from the region perform – trios, quartets, Stubenmusik (chamber music), string ensembles, and wind groups shape the evening. The musical directors of the Trachtenverein, Felix Uhlschmied and Franziska Guggemos, put together a varied program each year that showcases the diversity of Alpine folk music.

Living Customs

The Pfingstsingen is not a commercial concert, but a cherished tradition: the Trachtler (members of the traditional costume association) and friendly groups present the evening in traditional costume, and the audience experiences authentic, unamplified folk music in a familiar atmosphere. The date – always on Pentecost Sunday at 8:00 PM – has been firmly anchored in the region's calendar for decades.

Tradition for Over Six Decades

With its 62nd edition in 2026, the Wildsteiger Pfingstsingen is one of the oldest continuously cultivated folk music evenings in the Pfaffenwinkel. It attracts lovers of Alpine music from the entire Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills region.
