Moers — Electorate City on the Lower Rhine
Moers is a medium-sized town in the Wesel district (Düsseldorf administrative region), located on the western Lower Rhine between Duisburg and the Dutch border. With around 104,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger towns in the Lower Rhine region, characterised by a beautiful city centre with Moers Castle, the Castle Park, and a vibrant gastronomy and cultural scene. One of the renowned addresses for culinary delights in Moers is Bührmann Weine on Franz-Haniel-Straße 79.
Bührmann Weine — Lower Rhine Culinary Trade
Bührmann Weine GmbH is a family business with a long tradition in the wine and spirits trade on the Lower Rhine. The shop combines classic wine and spirits retail with a wine bar and event space, hosting tastings, workshops, and special gastronomic events throughout the year. A consistent concept: not just selling, but also making the products experienced.
Whisky & Smoke — The Summer Format
"Whisky & Smoke" is Bührmann's signature summer format: an open-air afternoon on the wine bar's terrace, combining whisky tasting and barbecue. The idea: instead of a classic seated tasting that takes place in a tasting room, the format unfolds on the terrace as a relaxed, convivial day of enjoyment. Whisky lovers can sample, while the grill (or rather, the smoker) simultaneously cooks slow-cooked meats, samples, pulled pork, brisket, and similar items.
Over 20 Open Whiskies
The focus of the tasting is on over 20 open whiskies – a selected range from Bührmann's portfolio. Classics (Scottish Highland, Speyside, and Islay whiskies, Irish Single Pot Stills, Japanese whiskies) and smoky rarities (Peated Single Malts, Smoky Limited Editions, Special Cask Finishes) are represented. The tasting is an inclusive service – no extra charge per tasting glass, a deliberately accessible format that also attracts beginners.
Smoker Specialities
Parallel to the tasting, the smoker is fired up with BBQ classics: Pulled Pork, Brisket, Ribs, grilled vegetables. The dishes are paired with whisky – suitable pairing recommendations are part of the consultation. Seating on the terrace, standing tables, and a relaxed summer atmosphere characterise the afternoon.
Getting to Moers
By car via the A 40 (Moers exit) or A 57 (Moers exit); parking available in the city centre vicinity. By train: Moers station (RB 36 from Duisburg), about a 10-minute walk from the station to the city centre. Around a 15-minute train ride from Duisburg. As whisky is served, travelling by public transport or on foot is recommended for local residents.
