Annual neighbourhood festival in Bochum-Westend with stage program and activities for Stahlhausen, Griesenbruch, and Goldhamme
The Westend Festival at Springerplatz is not a tourist event or a large-scale event. It is a classic Bochum neighbourhood festival, organised every year by residents, clubs, neighbourhood coordination, and the Westend Network. The festival has been held every year since 2008 β as a visible sign of an active Westend, closely linked to the urban redevelopment phase in the neighbourhood.
The Westend Festival 2026 will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Springerplatz in Bochum's Westend district. The format is deliberately compact: four hours of stage program and hands-on activities that get a whole neighbourhood moving.
The stage program and activities are curated by the Westend Network in collaboration with the Bochum-Mitte/Westend neighbourhood coordination:
Bochum's Westend is not a homogeneous district but an umbrella term for three quarters: Stahlhausen, Griesenbruch, and Goldhamme. Characterised by the historical Bochumer Verein (steel industry), today shaped by urban redevelopment processes, a diverse social structure, and a dense network of clubs. The Westend Festival is exactly that: the annual meeting of these three quarters under the open sky.
The organiser is the Westend Network, an association of neighbourhood actors, clubs, social service providers, and resident initiatives. The network sees itself as a platform for democratic and inclusive neighbourhood work and collaborates closely with the City of Bochum and the neighbourhood coordination. Springerplatz is the central public stage for this work β this becomes visible every year at the Westend Festival in September.
The 2026 edition of the Westend Festival will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The organisers are the Westend Network and the Bochum-Mitte/Westend neighbourhood coordination.
The exact stage program will be published shortly before the date on bochum-westend.de. Based on experience, the day follows this pattern:
Free admission. Food and drinks at the club stands payable in cash.
Easily accessible by public transport via tram 302 or 310 (stop Springerplatz or Westend). Around 10 minutes by tram or 20 minutes on foot from Bochum Central Station.
Limited parking available in the side streets around Springerplatz. Public transport or bicycle recommended.
Free admission. Food and drinks available for purchase at the club stands.
Stage in the middle of the square, stands around it. Limited seating β bringing a blanket or folding chair is worthwhile. Toilets available in surrounding restaurants or mobile units.
Arrive at 2:00 PM for the opening and stay until late afternoon β the program is most dense during this time. Those who want to get to know Westend can use the festival as an introduction, for example, for a subsequent walk through Stahlhausener StraΓe or to Westpark with Jahrhunderthalle.
