Werdohl Spring Funfair — Volksfest by the Lenne river

The Werdohl Spring Funfair annually kicks off the Volksfest (popular festival) season in the Märkischer Kreis district. From April 24th to 27th, 2026, carousels, shooting galleries, and food stalls will set up on the parking lot at Goethestraße — a location right on the Lenne river, in the heart of this small town in the Sauerland region. The organizer is the traditional Werdohler Schützenverein (Werdohl Marksmen's Association), which has established this date as a spring highlight for families from Werdohl and the neighboring communities of Plettenberg, Altena, and Neuenrade for decades.

Rides and Atmosphere

Even though the Spring Funfair may seem more modest compared to the large major funfairs in the Sauerland, the mix of classic rides and showman stalls guarantees family fun. For 2026, the following are documented among others:

• Musik Express (Showman Thiliant) — the classic for funfair atmosphere
• Steamer (Showman Langhoff) — a thrill ride with spinning

In addition, there are candy stalls, food stands (almonds, fries, crêpes, sausages), shooting galleries, lottery stalls, and games of chance — in short: the full program of a Rhenish-Westphalian spring funfair.

Location Right by the Water

The location on the Lenne river is a special feature of this Volksfest (popular festival): The Lenne — the main river of the Sauerland — flows directly past the festival grounds, creating an almost romantic evening atmosphere between the illuminated rides and the water's reflections. The nearby Werdohl town center is within walking distance, allowing you to combine a visit to the funfair with a stroll through the town.

Werdohler Schützenverein as Organizer

The Werdohler Schützenverein (Werdohl Marksmen's Association) is not only the organizer of the Spring Funfair but also of the large marksmen's festival in the summer (which is listed separately on the platform). The connection between marksmen tradition and Volksfest (popular festival) is typical in the Märkisches Sauerland — associations provide the infrastructure, showmen provide the attractions, and the town provides the space.
