Three open-air concerts with world music at the Wapelbad — presented free of charge by the City of Gütersloh
Weltstadtmusik im Wapelbad is an open-air concert series curated by the Department of Culture of the City of Gütersloh, offering three dates at the Wapelbad every summer. Unlike major festivals, the focus here is on acoustic concentration on one act — one concert, one band, one evening, free admission. The program consistently stays within the realm of world music: folk, pop, traditional styles from various cultures, combined with contemporary arrangements.
The 2026 edition opens on Sunday, May 24 with An Ermining, a band that oscillates between folk, pop, and songwriter formats. On Sunday, July 19, Swimming Paul will perform with their group — atmospheric indie pop with a folk touch. The finale on Monday, August 3 will be by Elderland — Nordic and Celtic folk, multi-instrumentalists, traditional songs in a concert format.
The Wapelbad is located in the north of Gütersloh (Friedrichsdorf district) and serves as a public outdoor swimming pool in the summer. Outside of swimming hours, the lawn is used as an open-air stage for cultural events. With its green surroundings, a large sunbathing lawn, and a small stage, the Wapelbad is ideal for intimate open-air concerts.
The city of Gütersloh in the district of Gütersloh (North Rhine-Westphalia) is home to several major companies (Bertelsmann, Miele) and boasts an active cultural scene with a theater, music and art school, civic hall, and a variety of community and district festivals. The Weltstadtmusik series is one of several municipal music formats — alongside Klangkosmos Weltmusik and Lesefrühling — and stands for the curatorial quality of Gütersloh's cultural landscape.
