Three-day medieval market at Kirchberg with crafts, jesters, music, and camp life
When tents are erected on the Sandeggen at Kirchberg in Burgdorf, campfires are lit, and the smell of roast pig, mead, and gingerbread fills the air, the medieval market begins. Organizer CaligatusFeleus brings together experienced traders, artisans, musicians, and jesters to create an authentic market village that immerses visitors in the world of the Middle Ages for three days.
The heart of any medieval market is its craftspeople. In Burgdorf, visitors will find blacksmiths forging iron right at their stalls, potters shaping clayware, leatherworkers, felt makers, basket weavers, wool processors, and jewelry makers. The stalls offer goods to touch, taste, and buy — handmade jewelry, leather pouches, drinking horns, medieval clothing, and much more. The opportunity to watch the craftspeople at work provides an immediate impression of medieval life.
Throughout the three days, there are performances by jesters, fire-eaters, jugglers, and acrobats — acts that particularly delight children. Several music groups perform on stage: drone sounds, medieval dance music, shawm, and hurdy-gurdy shape the acoustic landscape. As darkness falls, fire shows and illuminated stalls lend the market a special atmosphere — especially on Friday and Saturday evenings when the market is open until midnight.
Integrated into the market is a camp of medieval reenactors who present camp life as knights, squires, peasant women, or artisans. Show fights, historical demonstrations, and hands-on activities deepen the experiential dimension. Those who wish can participate in archery or other activities. These immersive elements make the Mittelaltermarkt Burgdorf more than just a sales market — it is a small, temporary world that makes the Middle Ages tangibly experienceable.
From Friday, July 17, to Sunday, July 19, 2026, the Sandeggen am Kirchberg will be transformed into a medieval market village. Three days of crafts, music, jesting, and camp life await visitors.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
