Family-run and volunteer-organised music festival in Bad Windsheim
The Weinturm Open Air in Bad Windsheim is among the oldest and most distinctive music festivals in Middle Franconia. It has been organised in a family-like and volunteer manner since the late 1970s – supported by helpers who shape the festival out of conviction. With the 2026 edition, the 47th iteration is set to take place.
Musically, the festival moves between folk, indie, and world music. Bands that stand off the beaten track perform on the stage Am Weinturm in Bad Windsheim – such as Şatellites, who combine Turkish folklore, psychedelic rock, and modern dance beats. The manageable capacity of around 3,000 visitors ensures a dense, personal atmosphere.
The Weinturm Open Air sees itself not just as a music event, but as "three days of social utopia": a consciously designed space for a different kind of togetherness, beyond large commercial events. This attitude – preserving festival culture – shapes the festival just as much as its programme.
Bad Windsheim is located in the Neustadt an der Aisch – Bad Windsheim district in the Bavarian administrative region of Middle Franconia. The spa town is known for the Franconian Open-Air Museum and its wine tradition – fittingly, the festival bears the name of the historic wine tower where it takes place.
