Bad Windsheim Kirchweih

Kirchweih 2026 — August 21 to September 1

The 2026 edition spans approximately twelve days. Kicked off by several Vorkirchweihen in the districts, the main festival follows with a procession, traditions, a festival tent, and showmen. Highlights include the historic Wagnertanz on Kirchweih Sunday and the Maßkrugschieben finale.

Schedule

Vorkirchweihen with beer tapping, Kirchweih procession with entry onto the festival grounds, Wagnertanz on Dr.-Martin-Luther-Platz, Maßkrugschieben (five preliminary rounds + finale), festival tent program, craft market, and Sunday with open shops. Concludes with grand fireworks.

Vorkirchweihen (before the main festival)

• Several Vorkirchweihen in the districts, each with a beer tapping ceremony

Opening

• Grand Kirchweihzug (Kirchweih procession) with entry onto the festival grounds and beer tapping ceremony by the First Mayor
• Opening of the amusement rides on the Schießwasen

Kirchweih Sunday

• Historischer Wagnertanz (historic wagon makers' dance) (since 1949) on Dr.-Martin-Luther-Platz

Highlights throughout the festival days

• Maßkrugschieben (beer mug sliding): five preliminary rounds in different locations, grand finale
• Festival tent with live music, beer garden, Handwerkermarkt (craft market), Sunday with open shops, "Kerwadorf" (Kirchweih village) entertainment in the evening

Closing

• Grand fireworks at the end of the Kirchweih

Getting there

Bad Windsheim is located in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district, accessible via the A7 motorway (Bad Windsheim exit) and by train on the Steinach–Bad Windsheim line. The festival grounds and the Schießwasen are located close to the town center.

Admission

Entry to the festival grounds, procession, and traditional events is free; costs are incurred for food, drinks, and amusement rides.

The 2026 Kirchweih runs from August 21 to September 1. Wagnertanz on Kirchweih Sunday, Maßkrugschieben finale, and closing fireworks towards the end of the festival. The current program is available from the Kur-, Kongress- und Touristik-GmbH Bad Windsheim.
