For around twelve days at the end of August, the Franconian spa and half-timbered town celebrates its Kirchweih with a packed program of customs, a festival tent, showmen, and markets. The festival is initiated by several Vorkirchweihen (pre-Kirchweih celebrations) in the districts, each with a beer tapping ceremony.
Customs at the center
- Kirchweihzug (Kirchweih procession): a festive parade with an entry onto the festival grounds and a beer tapping ceremony by the First Mayor
- Historischer Wagnertanz (historic wagon makers' dance): an old guild dance, performed again on Kirchweih Sunday on Dr.-Martin-Luther-Platz since 1949
- Maßkrugschieben (beer mug sliding): a skill competition with five preliminary rounds in different locations and a grand finale
- Festzelt (festival tent) with live music, a hearty beer garden, Handwerkermarkt (craft market), and a Sunday with open shops
