Traditional town festival on the first weekend of July in the Franconian town
The Kiliani-Altstadtfest is the largest town festival in Bad Windsheim and traditionally takes place on the first weekend of July. The picturesque old town of the Franconian town, with its half-timbered houses, the market square, and the Kornmarkt, serves as the venue. The name Kiliani refers to Saint Kilian, the Apostle to the Franks, whose feast day (July 8th) gave its name to numerous Franconian folk festivals and markets – from the Würzburg Kiliani Volksfest to the many Kiliani festivals in Lower and Middle Franconia.
The Kiliani-Altstadtfest offers a packed programme over the weekend:
Franconian specialties and regional drinks accompany the festival throughout all days.
Bad Windsheim is located in the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim in western Middle Franconia and is regionally known as a brine spa and for the Franconian Open-Air Museum. The spa and half-timbered town belongs to the tourist region Romantisches Franken. The Kiliani-Altstadtfest combines the historic backdrop of the old town with lively Franconian festival culture and is one of the annual highlights of the town.
The Kiliani-Altstadtfest is a prime example of the Franconian festival tradition surrounding Saint Kilian. In Bad Windsheim, town festival, medieval market, wine festival, and Volksfest merge into a multi-day experience in the state of Bavaria – family-friendly, regionally rooted, and with a rich culinary and musical offering.
The Kiliani-Altstadtfest 2026 will be celebrated on the first weekend of July, from the 3rd to the 5th, in the old town of Bad Windsheim. On Friday and Saturday evenings, live music will be performed on several stages, especially on the Klosterplatz. The market square will host the medieval spectacle with knights, jesters, and musicians, while the Kornmarkt will feature the beer and wine festival. On Saturday afternoon, a parade will march through the old town, and on Sunday morning, the Weißwurst breakfast will be served, with a varied children's programme rounding off Sunday. Franconian specialties will accompany the festival, which is one of the annual highlights of the spa and half-timbered town in the Romantisches Franken region.
Bad Windsheim is located in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district. Train connection: Bad Windsheim station on the Steinach–Bad Windsheim line (connection towards Würzburg/Nuremberg). By car via the A7 (exit Bad Windsheim).
Entry to the Altstadtfest is free. Food and drinks are sold on-site.
The parade on Saturday afternoon and the Weißwurst breakfast on Sunday are crowd-pullers. The medieval spectacle on the market square is particularly worthwhile with children.
