Carnival that isn't called Carnival
In Saarland, Carnival is called Faasend, and in Saarbrücken, its wildest, most glamorous version takes place in the Congresshalle Saarbrücken. PREMABÜBA (= „Premiere des Bübas“, a playful Saarland pun) and Weiberfaasenacht are two separate Carnival parties on different Faasend days — both in the same hall, by the same organizer, with a similar concept, but each with its own atmosphere. Immersing yourself is a must if you truly want to understand Saarland's Faasend.
The Two Dates in 2026
- Thursday, February 12th, 2026 — Weiberfaasenacht: Traditionally „Weiberdonnerstag“ (Women's Thursday), the start of the intense phase. Women's power and tie-cutting included — an old Carnival tradition celebrated exuberantly here in Saarbrücken. Group discounts (from 6 people) available — €2 cheaper per person.
- Saturday, February 14th, 2026 — PREMABÜBA: The larger, more exuberant of the two parties, traditionally Carnival Saturday. Four floors, packed program, costume highly recommended.
The 2026 Motto: „Küsse & Konfetti — Alleh Hopp in Love“
Every Faasend has its motto, and Saarbrücken's Carnival motto for 2026 plays on its proximity to Valentine's Day (February 14th falls directly on PREMABÜBA): „Küsse & Konfetti — Alleh Hopp in Love“. „Alleh Hopp“ is a Saarland Faasend cheer meaning something like „Let's go“ or „Here we go“. The hall will be decorated accordingly, and many guests choose their costumes to match the motto.
Four Floors, One Concept
The Congresshalle will be fully utilized:
- A main stage with live shows, DJ sets, and the opening by the dance troupe of KG „M'r sin nit so“ at 8:00 PM
- A second floor with an alternative music concept (charts, Schlager, motto classics)
- A disco floor with DJs for the younger crowd
- A lounge area with a more relaxed vibe and cozy bistro tables
Saarbrücken Carnival Identity
KG „M'r sin nit so“ is one of the most traditional Carnival societies in Saarland. Their dance troupes, Mariechens, and show dance groups perform every year at PREMABÜBA and Weiberfaasenacht — a rare opportunity to see classic Carnival choreographies outside of club events. This creates the unusual mix of club culture and a large party that is characteristic of Saarland's Faasend.
Audience and Atmosphere
A colorful mix of attendees from the entire Saarbrücken regional association, the Saarpfalz district, and the border region. Young adults dominate the dance floors, while an older regular crowd mingles in the lounge areas. The atmosphere is typically exuberant and cheerful; costumes are expected — regular clothing is considered „underdressed“. Ticket prices are in the range of classic big-city Carnival parties.
