About WEINsommer Braunschweig

Every August, WEINsommer transforms Braunschweig's Kohlmarkt into an open-air wine tasting. Vintners from the classic German wine regions of Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Mosel, and Rheingau travel personally to pour their wines directly at their stands. For four days, Rieslings, Spätburgunder, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, and many other varieties are tasted – accompanied by culinary specialties, live music, and a Mediterranean atmosphere in the heart of the city center. The concept of personal conversations with vintners, honest wine culture, and urban summer flair has made WEINsommer a permanent fixture in Braunschweig's event calendar.

Wine Enjoyment in the Heart of Braunschweig

WEINsommer Braunschweig is one of the most popular wine events in Lower Saxony, transforming the historic Kohlmarkt into an open-air wine bar for four days. The focus is on direct contact between visitors and producers: the vintners themselves staff the stands, explain vineyard sites, vintages, and grape varieties, and offer personal advice on selection.

The Concept

Unlike large events with countless vendors, WEINsommer consciously opts for a curated selection of renowned wineries. Classic German growing regions such as Rheinhessen, Pfalz, the Mosel, and the Rheingau are represented. This allows the full spectrum of German wine culture to be experienced – from delicate Mosel Rieslings to powerful Pfalz Spätburgunder and fruity Weissburgunder from Rheinhessen.

Culinary Delights and Atmosphere

To complement the wines, a selection of regional and Mediterranean caterers serves small dishes: Flammkuchen, cheese platters, antipasti, fish, and game dishes. The Kohlmarkt, with its historic burgher houses, provides the perfect backdrop – on balmy summer evenings, it creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a Southern German wine tavern rather than a major Northern German city.

Tradition for Years

WEINsommer is part of a series of events that visits several German cities and has long been a permanent fixture in Braunschweig's August calendar. Wine lovers from the entire Hannover-Braunschweig-Wolfsburg region use the four days to discover new wineries and order favorite wines directly from the producer.

WEINsommer Braunschweig — edition 2026

WEINsommer Braunschweig 2026 invites you from August 13th to 16th to the Kohlmarkt for four days of open-air wine culture. Vintners from Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Mosel, and Rheingau will personally present their current vintages. The wine tasting will be accompanied by culinary specialties and live music in the historic city center. Admission is free; only wines and food are paid for directly at the respective stands. The 2026 edition continues the proven concept of personal conversations with vintners and a curated wine selection.
