Late summer wine festival at Gut Philippshof with a wine hike through the Sommerloch vineyards
The late summer wine festival at Gut Philippshof in Sommerloch is a fixed point in the Nahe wine festival season. For four days – from Thursday to Sunday at the end of August – the winery transforms into a meeting point for gourmets, wine lovers, and hikers. The focus is on the Nahe wines from the estate, a guided wine hike through the Sommerloch vineyards, and the family atmosphere of a family winery.
In addition to the wine festival at Gut Philippshof, parallel activities by other Sommerloch vintners often take place at the end of August (e.g., Keber-Kolling) – making Sommerloch a small wine festival region for four days.
Sommerloch is a small municipality in the northern district of Bad Kreuznach with just under 800 inhabitants, nestled between the Soonwald forest and the Nahe river. The charming place name (which has nothing to do with the media "silly season") refers to a geological depression where the village has grown. In summer and early autumn, the region unfolds its special charm – warm days, ample sunshine, and ripe grapes in the vineyards.
Gut Philippshof is run by the Karl-Heinz Eckes winegrowing family and stands for handcrafted Nahe wines with a clear signature. Riesling, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder, and selected specialties characterize the range. At the wine festival, current vintage wines are served by the glass (Schoppen), along with sparkling wine from their own production. The courtyard and wine shop become hospitality areas with standing tables, benches, and a dance floor.
A highlight of the festival is the wine hike through the vineyards above Sommerloch. It leads along the slopes that define the area's terroir and passes various stations with wine, water, and small snacks. The vintner explains grape varieties, soil conditions, and the wine year along the way.
The weekend spans four days – Thursday evening kick-off, Friday and Saturday main program days with music, catering, and the hike, Sunday a relaxed conclusion with a Frühschoppen (morning pint) atmosphere. Catering with Flammkuchen (Tarte flambée), Winzervesper (vintner's snack), Bratwurst (sausage), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), salads, and coffee/cake completes the culinary offering.
The 2026 Weinfest at Gut Philippshof Sommerloch runs from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30. The program includes Nahe wines by the glass, a wine hike through the Sommerloch vineyards, catering with regional specialties, and live music. Free admission.
As in previous years, Gut Philippshof organizes the program independently. Detailed daily schedules, music acts, hike times, and any tasting packages will be announced by the winery a few weeks before the event on gut-philippshof.de.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
