Eimsbüttel Wine Festival – 2026 as a Midsummer Festival for the Summer Solstice
The wine festival on Eimsbüttel's Osterstraße has long been a fixture of Hamburg's high summer – traditionally at the end of August. In 2026, it will move to June for the first time: from June 18th to 21st, organizer Til Bernstein from Osterstraße e.V. will open the festival, coinciding with the summer solstice on June 20th. The wine festival thus becomes a Midsummer Festival.
Two main reasons lie behind the date shift: Firstly, the Osterstraßenfest – the large neighbourhood festival of Osterstraße – should be able to use the last weekend of August. Secondly, the June date avoids overlaps with other Hamburg street festivals in late summer.
The festival site is Fanny-Mendelssohn-Platz on Osterstraße. If approved in the large format, the festival will extend to the adjacent Heußweg. Programmatically: stalls from Hamburg wine importers and Eimsbüttel gastronomy, live music, a cosy atmosphere on the square. Free admission.
The formal approval from the Eimsbüttel district office was being processed at the time of the announcement in spring 2026 – but the date and the large format are confirmed. No public viewing of the concurrently running Football World Cup (Germany vs. Côte d’Ivoire match on June 20th).
The 2026 wine festival is changing its date for the first time, moving from late summer to the weekend around the summer solstice. Four days from Thursday, June 18th to Sunday, June 21st at Fanny-Mendelssohn-Platz on Osterstraße. The formal district approval was still being processed in spring 2026, but the date and the large format (with Heußweg extension) are confirmed.
The festival site will feature stalls from Hamburg wine importers and Eimsbüttel gastronomy, complemented by a small live music stage. The concept focuses on neighbourhood conviviality, a cosy atmosphere, and the longest days of the year – the summer solstice in 2026 falls on Saturday, June 20th.
Despite the concurrently running 2026 Football World Cup (Germany vs. Côte d’Ivoire match on June 20th), the wine festival will not offer public viewing – a conscious decision by the organizer to preserve the neighbourhood festival atmosphere.
