Neighbourhood festival for all children — accessible and allergy-friendly
The Inclusive Children's Festival Eimsbüttel is an initiative festival from the neighbourhood. Originating from a group of Eimsbüttel residents committed to a more inclusive society, the first edition took place in 2025. The second edition is now in preparation for 2026. Unlike commercial festivals or larger neighbourhood festivals, it is deliberately low-threshold and tailored to inclusion.
The festival considers accessibility not just during setup, but from the planning stage. Ramps for wheelchair users, all stalls on one level, allergy-friendly food (with clear labelling of ingredients), activities that work for various physical abilities — tactile stations, quiet rooms, multilingual information. The festival thus pursues the model of a fully inclusive neighbourhood festival, similar to those existing in Berlin and Munich.
A special feature of the festival is its collaborative planning. On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the association Bunterkunt Hamburg invited interested parties to an open idea workshop at Kreativhaus Eimsbüttel (Telemannstraße 10) from 3 PM to 5 PM. Everyone could participate in the planning and develop the concept together — from stall concepts to concrete inclusive measures. A rare form of bottom-up festival planning.
Eimsbüttel is one of Hamburg's most densely populated and diverse neighbourhoods, within the district of the same name. The Kreativhaus on Telemannstraße is an established neighbourhood cultural institution offering workshops, studios, and events for the community. It is a logical host for an inclusive children's festival: already low-threshold, well-connected, and geographically central.
The 2026 Inclusive Children's Festival builds upon the first edition from 2025. The concept was further developed in several open idea workshops with Eimsbüttel residents — the main one took place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 3 PM to 5 PM at Kreativhaus Eimsbüttel.
The focus is on continuous accessibility: level stalls, ramps for wheelchair users, allergy-friendly food with clear labelling, tactile stations, quiet retreat areas. Play activities are designed to work for children with different physical abilities.
The date and location will be published in the weeks before the festival by the association Bunterkunt Hamburg via Eimsbüttel's neighbourhood channels.
Detailed program to be published in spring 2026 after the idea workshops conclude. Expected components:
Complete accessibility, allergy-friendly catering, collaborative planning with neighbourhood residents. One of Hamburg's few children's festivals with an explicitly inclusive concept.
Admission likely free. Food and drinks to be paid for on site.
Subway stations Christuskirche (U2) or Emilienstraße (U2), both about a five-minute walk to Telemannstraße.
Summer 2026 — exact date and location will be announced before the festival.
