A personal connoisseur meeting with 500 wines and 50 exhibitors in the historic Aula Carolina
The Aula Carolina in Aachen's city center is a historic lecture hall from the 18th century — a two-story, listed building that formerly served as the main lecture room of the Carolingian University of Aachen and today shapes the cultural center of the same name at the transition between the city center and Pontstraße. With its high ceiling, mirror motifs, and central location, it is a unique setting for a wine event. In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia — and especially in the tri-border city of Aachen — WeinAachen is thus one of the most prestigious wine fairs in the western Rhineland.
The focus of the fair is on the 50 exhibitors, who come annually from Germany and the international wine world. A total of about 500 wines are offered for tasting, covering around 800 square meters of exhibition space. The composition is carefully curated: young independent vintners, small family wineries, established wine cellars, and renowned direct importers — no mass producers, but providers with character.
All important growing regions are represented from Germany: Mosel, Saar, Ruwer, Nahe, Franken, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Baden, and Württemberg. Riesling is naturally the focus of the German presentation, but Spätburgunder, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, and increasingly international varieties (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) are also available for tasting. The Aachen WeinAachen is one of the few opportunities to experience a broad cross-section of the German wine landscape in a single weekend.
In addition, there are international exhibitors from Italy, Spain, France, Austria, as well as the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, South Africa, Chile). The fair thus covers the entire stylistic spectrum — from dry Riesling to Chianti, Rioja, and Bordeaux, to complex Shiraz and Malbec wines.
WeinAachen deliberately positions itself as a personal connoisseur meeting — not an industry fair. Exhibitors are present at their stands throughout the two days, answering questions, giving tips, and telling the story of their winery. Visitors can talk to vintners from the Pfälzisches Weinland as well as with an importer of South African Stellenbosch wines. It is precisely this directness that distinguishes the fair from larger industry events such as ProWein in Düsseldorf.
The organizer is weberMESSE GmbH from Bonn — an established trade fair company that hosts several similar wine fairs (autumn and spring formats) in Germany. This experience ensures smooth operation, professional exhibitor support, and a carefully curated selection of exhibitor profiles.
