Club festival at the foot of the Teck — Old town, half-timbered houses, and Swabian flair on the first Sunday in July
Weilheim an der Teck is located in the Esslingen district at the foot of the Teck — that striking ridge of the Swabian Jura that overlooks the Lenninger Tal. The town of 10,000 inhabitants is one of the oldest settlements in the foothills of the Jura and has a particularly well-preserved old town center with half-timbered buildings from the 16th to 18th centuries. Once a year, on the first Sunday in July, this historic old town center becomes the festival backdrop for the Städtlesfest — the town's annual tribute to its clubs.
The festival begins at 11 a.m. in the market square in front of the town hall with a public opening. The mayor gives the welcome address, then third-graders from the local primary school take the stage and — together with the assembled audience — perform the Weilheim song. This own town anthem is a tradition that sets the Städtlesfest apart from surrounding folk festivals: identity and customs visibly intertwine.
The winding alleys, the market square, small courtyards, and the squares around the town church are used by the local clubs. Sports clubs, music associations, the fire department, the Albverein (Swabian Jura Club), the Schwäbischer Heimatbund (Swabian Heritage Association), church communities, schools, and local social initiatives — they all organize club stands and ensure a wide culinary and atmospheric diversity:
Several small stages are spread throughout the old town — market square stage, schoolyard stage, small open-air stands in individual alleys. Music clubs, local bands, school orchestras, and sometimes youth groups from the surrounding area perform here. The program is family-friendly and accessible — a summer day on which generations celebrate together without becoming a mass event.
Anyone visiting the Städtlesfest should combine the day with a hike up the Teck — the medieval castle tower sits 775 meters above the foothills of the Jura and offers a wide view over the Lenninger Tal and the Albvorland. The Albvereinshaus Burg Teck and the "Heinrich-Hieber-Weg" hiking trail are also popular connecting destinations.
The Weilheim Städtlesfest 2026 will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the old town center. The opening is at 11 a.m. in the market square in front of the town hall — with the welcome address by the mayor, school performances by the primary school, and the traditional performance of the Weilheim song.
Afterwards, the local clubs fill the winding alleys with catering stands, small stages, and children's activities. Sports, music, and cultural clubs, the fire department, the Albverein, and church communities offer Swabian specialties from Maultaschen to Weilheim wine from the Schurwald. The festival runs until late afternoon.
